Modelling free surface flows and rigid body dynamics
Discrete Element Method (DEM) allows for the computation of rigid particle dynamics, by considering contact laws to account for interaction forces. The coupled numerical solution, based on SPH and DEM discretisations, resolves solid-solid and solid-fluid interactions in broad range of scales. The results show that the model is accurate and is capable of treating highly complex interactions, such as transport of debris or hydrodynamic actions on structures.
